About the Sexual Violence Helpline
Since 2010, this helpline has been offering listening, information and resources to victims of any form of sexual violence, as well their loved ones and those who work with them. Our service also responds to requests from LAFU (Emergency Financial Assistance Line). The Sexual Violence Helpline is accessible by telephone or by chat.
Job description – On-call Counsellor :
The Sexual Violence Helpline team is looking for new counsellors to add to its on-call list. Counsellors on the on-call list must be able to provide counselling both over the phone and by chat.
The role of a Sexual Violence Helpline on-call counsellor consists in:
- offering active listening
- providing accurate, pertinent information
- demystifying sexual violence and its consequences
- referring callers to the appropriate resources
- responding promptly and efficiently to emergency and crisis situations
- evaluating and responding to requests for emergency financial assistance from professionals and caregivers from different settings.
Requirements :
- University diploma in counselling or other relevant fields or College Diploma (DEC) in counselling or other relevant fields combined with equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of work experience
- Specific interest in the issue of sexual violence and violence towards women
- Experience working with victims of sexual violence or criminal acts would be an asset
- Must be able to work nights
- Excellent analytical skills and collaborates well with others
- Knowledge of support services for victims in Quebec.
- Comfortable working with evolving computer systems
- Good knowledge of French and English, both verbal and written.

- Professional development to ensure up-to date knowledge on issues related to sexual violence.
- Workplace: hybrid in-person and remote work, depending on service needs;
- Flexible schedule: days, evenings and nights, depending on availability.
- Compensation based on MSAC salary scale, starting at 27.4$/hour;
- Enhanced financial compensation in lieu of paid public holidays and sick leave
- 4 weeks of annual vacation.

Since 1980, the MSAC has provided a safe space for anyone who has been affected by sexual violence. The MSAC offers the following four services:
- Medico-social services for sexual assault victims 18 years of age and over
- Individual counselling for sexual assault victims 18 years of age and over
- Support provided 24/7 by the Sexual Violence Helpline for people of all ages in Québec affected by sexual violence
