Support Services for designated centres offering medico-social services to sexual assault victims
This service is allied with Québec’s designated centres providing medico-social services for sexual assault victims. The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) mandated the MSAC to create this provincial service and works closely with the centre to realize its mission.
The mission of the Support Services team is to support and respond to the clinical, organizational and training needs of respondents, management and personnel in designated centres across Québec. Our knowledge and expertise allow us to provide medico-social intervention teams and their managers with the tools they need to offer the best medico-social service possible, while keeping the victim at the heart of the process.
Listening to needs expressed by designated centres
Our team has set up various platforms for receiving and responding to questions from anyone involved in the operations of a designated centre and supporting them in implementing solutions. Their needs and problems—clinical, technical and management-related—are compiled and used to create new projects and issue recommendations on best practices.
Intersectoral recommendations
Our recommendations are forwarded to our primary partner, the MSSS, as well as to our provincial partners in a wide range of sectors, including the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales or DPCP), various police departments, and the Québec forensic science laboratory (Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale or LSJML).
The practices and services offered to victims are promoted among various institutions, particularly those affiliated with the Réseau de la santé et des services sociaux or RSSS (health and social services network). The more widely the services provided by the designated centres are known, the more they will be called on in the health care and judicial processes.
Training and working tools
We are constantly developing new practical tools for the designated centres, including forms for documenting medico-social interventions, a bank of clinical cases and training sessions. All of these tools can be accessed at any time on the Member’s page of the Support Service website at en.serviceconseilqc.ca.
With the help of our valued partners in various sectors, the Support Service for designated centres keeps the medico-social intervention guide, the forensic kit and the medico-social kit up to date.
