The Sexual Violence Helpline team is looking for new chat counsellors. These positions are temporary one-year positions with possibility of renewal, and will be filled in conjunction with the launch of the 24/7 chat line scheduled for the end of May 2024. Four positions are available :
Two daytime positions, from 7:00 am-3:00 pm:
- 28 hours/week, Sunday to Wednesday
- 21 hours/week, Wednesday to Saturday
- Participation in two Wednesday meetings every month.
Two night shift positions, from 11:00 pm-7:00 am
- 28 hours/week, Sunday to Wednesday
- 21 hours/week, Wednesday to Saturday
- Participation in two Wednesday meetings every month.
Training of new counsellors will begin towards the end of April.
The role of a Digital Counsellor at the Sexual Violence Helpline consists in:
- responding by text to requests from victims and those close to them
- identifying the person’s needs and providing accurate, pertinent information
- referring people to the appropriate resources and responding promptly and efficiently to emergency and crisis situations
- contributing to the development and improvement of the counselling service by participating in team meetings, professional development activities and supervision.
Requirements
- University diploma in counselling or other relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of one year of experience working with victims of sexual violence or criminal acts
- Specific interest in the issue of sexual violence and violence towards women
- Avoir déjà fait la formation intervenir auprès des personnes suicidaires à l’aide de bonnes pratiques serait un atout
- Average typing ability on a computer keyboard
- Participation in two Wednesday meetings every month.

- Knowledge of community resources throughout Québec
- Knowledge and comprehension of issues surrounding sexual violence
- Comfortable working with evolving computer systems
- Good knowledge of French and English, both verbal and written.

- Contract position with possibility of renewal
- Hourly wage: $26.68
- Ongoing training in knowledge and skills
- Workplace: in-person and remote hybrid working arrangement.
