Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Officer is responsible for disseminating the MSAC’s brand identity as an organization and promoting its services and subsidiary brands, including its province-wide Sexual Violence Helpline.
As a specialist in institutional communication, the Communications Officer works closely with the Sexual Violence Helpline Coordinator and MSAC teams to deploy the organization’s communication strategies. This person plays a key role in building and maintaining media relations and developing strategic partnerships, while ensuring the consistency and impact of messages broadcast across all channels in order to strengthen the positioning of the Sexual Violence Helpline and the MSAC with all our stakeholders.

Responsibilities
- Participate in identifying and deploying institutional communication strategies to strengthen the reputation and positioning of the Sexual Violence Helpline, the MSAC and its activities.
- Manage public relations (with the press and media) to promote the image of the Sexual Violence Helpline and the MSAC throughout the network and general public.
- Participate in developing sustainable, strategic relationships with partners and key institutions.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of internal communications and awareness and promotional campaigns, including liaising with suppliers (agencies, graphic designers and printers).
- Participate in the creation and distribution of engaging content on various channels (website, social media, promotional material, press releases, etc.).
Tasks
Communication strategies
- Participate in identifying communication needs and defining objectives and strategic priorities for the Sexual Violence Helpline and the MSAC.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of annual multi-channel communication plans adapted to various publics.
- Use strategic intelligence to identify outreach opportunities.
Press and media relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with a network of press and media contacts.
- Collaborate in the writing and distribution of press releases.
- Follow up on media requests.
Communication with partners and outside organizations (B2B)
- Contribute to the MSAC’s reputation and positioning with partners and institutions.
- Promote the role and services of the Sexual Violence Helpline and the MSAC within the network and to the general public.
Communication campaigns
- Participate in the design and deployment of awareness and positioning campaigns, including the development of content and communication material (posters, brochures, videos, etc.).
Website
- Ensure the smooth operation of websites, including management of hosting, domain names and the content management system (CMS).
- Manage accounts and coordinate agencies’ work regarding any creations or modifications.
Events
- Centralize requests for promotional and awareness-raising events and participate in the logistical deployment of teams and promotional material.
The person we are looking for must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or other related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in institutional communication, public relations and the deployment of awareness and promotional campaigns, ideally in a community environment (NPO, social services, etc.).
- Experience in defining and implementing strategic communications plans, including the production of institutional content (reports, brochures, posters and videos).
- Experience in public relations (press and media), including writing and distributing press releases, coordinating media actions and organizing events (press conferences and interviews).
- Ability to analyze institutional issues and adapt communication strategies to changing circumstances.
- Knowledge of issues related to victims of sexual violence.
- Possessing the creativity and adaptability needed to develop engaging, powerful content aimed at different audiences.
- Ability to interact effectively with institutional partners and media.
- Good command of digital tools: Suite Office, WordPress, MailChimp, Canvas, Adobe Suite, Google Trends and Google Analytics.
- Good organizational skills, autonomy and initiative, with an ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent writing skills in both French and English.

About the Montreal Sexual Assault Centre (MSAC)
Since 1980, the MSAC has provided a safe, non-judgmental space where anyone affected by sexual assault is welcomed, listened to, believed and supported in accordance with their choices. The MSAC offers:
- medico-social services for sexual assault victims 18 years of age and over
- individual counselling for sexual assault victims 18 years of age and over
- listening and information 24/7 provided by the Sexual Violence Helpline for people of all ages who have been affected by sexual violence
- support for teams working in designated centres across Québec through our Support Service for designated centres providing medico-social services for sexual assault victims.
